Tilhari is a sacred, traditional necklace worn by Hindu married women in Nepal, serving as a cultural equivalent to the Indian mangalsutra and symbolizing fertility, marital status, and the continuity of life. The ornament consists of two main parts: a spindle-shaped gold pendant (often with seven carved grooves representing the days of the week or Rudraksha seeds) and a beaded chain known as pote, typically made of red, green, or yellow glass seed beads.
